    Heart & Soul of Toronto

Disbelief. Through the past two month, hockey fans in the city are witnessing the Maple Leafs’ resurgence – their return to relevance. As the team remains in playoff contention, results are fairly middling from a pragmatic viewpoint. All fans alike, however, are more ecstatic at the prospect of seeing a postseason game hosted in Toronto.

    An Open Slate

How can you fully appreciate where you’ll be if you don’t know where you are? During Frosh Week, you get your first (technically, second for sticklers who are adamant about counting the Summer Symposium) chance to see what Schulich Life looks like. Upper-years, first-years, the odd group of keeners hard at work. There’s obviously a certain sense of hype preceding the first day, week and year. One question, among many others, is: where them other 90+ers at? It’s an elite status allotted to us in high school, a minority group that defined many of us.

    Call out to Leafs fans

Schulich has spirit. Asking students across the building at the busiest time of the day, I found a massive amount of hockey-lovers. More importantly, a lot of them represent a specific group of unified and disillusioned sports fans. Inarguably, that has become an often satirical definition of those supporting the Toronto Maple Leafs.

To Facebook or not to Facebook

The majority of students – especially first-years – opt to bring their to class. Whether it’s an hour-and-a-half or three hours, chances are you’ll get bored enough at some point that social networking becomes a necessity. Not really a shocking revelation, even though that sometimes means using your till you’ve tried every template from every angle. I’m not scathing at this behavior, as admittedly I have used Economics lectures to watch ‘True Blood’ episodes – edit: seasons.

BBAs vs. iBBAs: Curing Schulich Hangovers

Two years ago, an infamous INSIDER column allowed students to go back-and-forth on the differences between BBAs and IBBAs – largely intended for satirical purposes. Like any other contentious issue, it led to a batch-wide (2013s, to be more specific) war of words that spread from school corridors to social networking sites within a matter of days. Though it eventually fizzled after moments of genuine hostility (okay, I’m a nerd… Facebook arguments scare me) to sarcasm that went undetected, it isn’t hard to see the divide between our two degrees.

  • About Us

Since its founding in 1994, the INSIDER has been a fundamental tool in enhancing communication between organizations and students at the Schulich School of Business. It has been an integral force in serving the student community – as well as the faculty and school administration – as a source of information. Our newly diversified multimedia group has furthered our efforts to cover issues and events impacting the school.
  • Become the ‘Voice’

The INSIDER invites all members of the Schulich community to contribute to our organization. Do you aspire to become a staff writer for our monthly publications, contribute to our re-designed ‘Schulich Life’ blog, or even join our production or marketing departments?

  • I didn't see it then, but it turned out that getting fired from Apple was the best thing that could have ever happened to me. The heaviness of being successful was replaced by the lightness of being a beginner again, less sure about everything. It freed me to enter one of the most creative periods of my life.
